The first thing you will notice about Berridale is the historic and beautiful row of poplars running the length of its main street. Surrounding the township, and a cause of much interest, are the unusual stone boulders unique to this region. Crystallised as a large mass from magma far below the surface, the granite formed around 400 million years ago. Since then the granite has been eroded and lifted to become exposed as it is today. The visitor has a number of interesting places to explore, such as the excellent Snowy River Winery, Eucumbene Trout Farm, African Violet Nursery, the popular Berridale Inn and the Eucumbene Dam Wall as well as galleries and stores.

A visit to the village of Dalgety, on the banks of the famed Snowy River, offers an opportunity to learn about a fascinating pocket of the Snowy Region’s past. The Historic Town & River Walk will inform the visitor that in 1904 Dalgety was a proposed site for the future National Capital. Dalgety was also a major stock route for bullock trains, a punt carrying them across the river before the famous bridge was built in 1888.

Grab a copy of the Historic Town and River Walk leaflet from the unique Iona Gardens Café and Nursery. Surrounded by gardens and steeped in history, this quaint little cafe also operates the “old world” corner store, supplies local produce, and is the home of Cool Country Cuisine Gourmet Condiments. The café can also supply historic information, and is also an Australia Post agency.

Buckley's Crossing Hotel is the social hub of the town and has a great display of old photographs. Drop in and ask about a country-cooked evening meal.
